Amtrak's Pere Marquette line gains againGRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Ridership on Amtrak's Pere Marquette rail line is up for the sixth straight year, according to this Associated Press report.
Michigan Department of Transportation officials say close to 105,000 passengers used the line connecting Grand Rapids to Chicago this fiscal year.
That's a 2.8 percent increase from the previous year. The Grand Rapids Press reports it's the second year in a row that the Pere Marquette has topped the 100,000-passenger mark.
Amtrak officials cite greater awareness of the Pere Marquette, rising gas prices and construction on major Chicago expressways for the increased ridership.
