Any way of requesting where you sit in your car?

Amtrak will do everything in their power to seat children with their adult guardians. Only in extreme situations could I think that couldn't be accomodated.
 
Although it's been a long time ago, at least once on the Crescent we were assigned certain coach seats by an attendant. I remember this only because the seats were at the front of the car which gave us much more limited outside views, having only the view directly to the side. We asked if we could move. We weren't allowed to immediately change, but our seats were changed later. I don't remember whether it was on #19 or #20. I doubt the train was very full as this would have been between ATL and NOL, but I don't remember any other details. The only times we traveled north of ATL we were always in sleepers, and from about 2001 on, we always had sleepers.
