Greetings all -
I'm considering Auto Train trip and was planning to use my trailer hitch mounted bike rack so I could bring my mountain bike along. According to the Amtrak web site, rear of vehicle mounted racks are permitted on the Auto Train and I assume this includes trailer hitch type racks. Of course, this extends the length of my vehicle (about 2-3 feet) to an extent that I need to reserve an "oversize" spot. I wouldn't expect any difficulties (such as the bike falling off the rack), but I would definitely opt to use additional straps make sure the bike is securely mounted to the rack.
Has anyone transported their bikes on the Auto Train? Any difficulties or words of advice? I also read that Amtrak would have me sign damage waiver..which makes me wonder if it would better to stow the bike in the vehicle for the train ride.
Thanks!
