Some months ago, there was an AU discussion thread about the celebrities who had been spotted riding on Amtrak trains. Back in the late 1940s there was a weekday radio program that featured popular sports announcer Bob Elson interviewing passengers about to depart on the 20th Century Limited. Surviving recordings of these broadcasts include interviews with movie stars & entertainers, captains of industry, prominent sports figures, world famous musicians, visiting royalty, scientists, educators, politicians, and other “leading personalities.” (If such a program was being produced today, Chicago’s Metropolitan Lounge would be the logical place to find the celebrities to interview.)
