Rufus Smith, branch manager for Laidlaw Transit Services, said the incident "defies school bus operating procedures."

The driver wasn't issued a citation from any law enforcement agency, but he was fired for what Smith called a "serious error in judgment."

It was also a violation of the law.

Georgia traffic law 40-6-142 states that the driver of any school bus must stop at least 15 feet from a railroad crossing and not proceed until it is safe to do so. Laidlaw drivers went thorough a review of safety practices Tuesday and have another one scheduled for this morning. "We'll review the safety basics and talk about our safety policies," said Smith.

Anthony or Alan if you feel like this needs to be moved or delated please feel free to do it.
