California Rail Pass

I'm thinking of getting a California Rail Pass at the end of this summer and familiar with most of the routes included except the Coast Starlight north of Sacramento amd the bus line north of the Bay Area toward Eureka. My question for those more familiar with these areas is: What stop or stops in northern California would you recommend? I've heard good things about Dunsmuir, but maybe I should check out the new bridge in Redding or the party scene in Chico. Also, apart from Yosemite are there any national parks that I get to via some form of public transportation?
