California Zephyr with dome car Northern Sky

Amtrak #5(26) has the dome car Northern Sky from Northern Sky Rail Charters.

Here's the California Zephyr at Agency, Iowa running only four minutes late:

Those Superliners sure would block a great front of train view.

Just saw this car returning east on the end of Amtrak #6(31). This train arrives in Chicago later today. It left Ottumwa, Iowa running 51 minutes late.

22 seconds from the moment the gates start down until the pilot reaches the crossing. And still there are folks who can't afford to wait and drive around lowered gates with catastrophic results.

This Northern Sky was also filmed today by a fellow train enthusiast in nearby Ottumwa. So here's a video that doesn't have a pesky black dot:



I just saw a pickup truck go around these very gates just last week. Wasn't in front of an Amtrak train through; it was a BNSF intermodal train. In that case the guy had about 27 seconds.
