Cancel for Refund for Advanced Bustitution

Howdy folks,

I'm looking at booking train 14 (NB Coast Starlight) for a week from now however the fire closure has me worried. If I were to book the train and they put us on a bus instead, can we cancel out the trip and then ask for a full refund instead?

You’d get your refund. Question is how hard you’d have to work for it. As arcane as Amtrak refund polices are I’ve never had an issue with their individual customer service personnel aka “guest relations”, “center of excellence” or whatever they call themselves presently. If there’s any type of snafu the squeaky wheel will get a refund, voucher or both in my experiences.
