JACKSON TOWNSHIP, Ind, - Two people were killed sunday in a gradecrossing accident in Porter County, Ind., on CSX's Garrett Subdivision. Their vehicle went around lowered crossing gates at 6:30 a.m. and was struck by Amtrak train 41, the Three Rivers bound from New York to Chicago, according to Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari in a story published in the Munster Times, and other news sourecs. No one on board the six-car train was injured. The train's maximum authorized speed in the area is 79 mph. The incident shut down CSX's main Chicago-Cleveland/Pittsburgh route for 3 hours, 30 minutes. Porter County is in northwest Indiana.
