All meals are included for the duration you have sleeping car accommodations.

Looks like a heck of a lot of rain, but IMHO it is anyone's guess what that will mean for the CONO. On the one hand it does not look to be too bad a storm - other than the rain, on the other hand this has not been a year filled with good luck for Amtrak.

You'll get seated for dinner right out of CHI, that said, relax when you get seated in the Cross Country Cafe (CCC) - where the meals are served - as actually getting served can be pretty sllooowwwwwwwww. The good news, as I see it, is that you don't really have any place to go, other than bed, so it is okay to just chill and to get to know your fellow travelers while you wait. You'll get breakfast and lunch as well, but be sure to try and avoid peak times, as the CCC does not have the capacity to serve a full train, and you'll end up waiting for a space to open.

Thanks :) on the way up it was just dinner and breakfast so wasnt sure how the trip home was going to work .

"tropical depression " yes its suppose to be a rain maker /flood maker so wasnt sure if amtrak stopped because of heavy rain

City of New Orleans: just arrived back in Memphis tonight on 58, drove home to Jackson, TN--CONO operated on time northbound, met late 59 on the way. I may have made it out just in time! On board service personnel said CONO might get turned Saturday at either Memphis or Jackson, MS but no definite word yet. If the flood gates get closed, the train can't run. A check of the website still allows you to make reservations to and from NOLA, so Amtrak may not even know yet, depending on how the storm develops. Monday's Sunset departure is cancelled. Good luck! We were creeping even slower than usual over the trestles leaving NOLA, and the water was already quite choppy.
