The obstruction was found during a test run for a friends and family event being held the next day

While his plan thankfully failed it does appear the motive was genuinely evil and the intended impact does rise to the level of terrorism. Also, can we please bring the angry face reaction back? Events like this deserve more than a mild frown IMO.

Someone once posted that trains in general and Amtrak trains in particular are low-priority targets for terrorists. Whether this individual was an actual terrorist or someone who just wanted to cause mass mayhem and loss of life and property, it is good that he was caught and that his attempt to sabotage the tracks was discovered before anything bad happened. Let's hope that he is dealt with in such a way so as to discourage copycats from trying something similar.
