CZ Ticket Switch

A group of us have reserved sleeper car accomodations from CHI-EMY on the CZ next week . My brother-in-law is now unble to travel due to unforseen circumstances .

Question: He wants to give his ticket to his 16 yr old so he can go and the ticket will not be wasted and so everyone will have a partner. Will AMTRAK allow us to make switch on the ticket. They were paid for via credit card.

I would appreciate any help you have to offer.

Yes, you should be able to make that switch. You'll have to do it by phone initially to get Amtrak to take your brother-in-law's name off the ticket and then put the other person on it. Or if you can get to an Amtrak station before the day of departure, then the agent should be able to do it for you also. But don't wait until the day of departure to tell Amtrak. Either call and make sure, or visit with an agent.

One potential problem though could be if the sleeper is listed on your brother-in-laws ticket. In that case it might require that the entire reservation be reworked, if the other person in the room with him is listed as being the person who purchased the sleeper, then it would be less of a problem.

Also if you already have the ticket in hand, then make sure that you allow extra time in Chicago's Union Station to exchange the tickets. The ticket line can get quite long at that time of day because of all the trains departing within that 2 to 4 PM window.
