We will be on the CZ for the first-time next month from CHI to EMY. We want to know what to be on the lookout for in seeing the scenery that passes us? We will be in a bedroom, so we don't know what side the window faces. If possible and it's not too much to ask, let us know what's on each side and for the side our window does not face we will run to the observation car to see the other side at the appropriate time. Thanks all.

There are varied opinions but there really is no bad side on the CZ. You can enjoy both sides in sightseer lounge from time to time as well.
First day is just cornfields.
Second day, when you ascend the rockies you will want to be on the right side of the train. However later the sides with facing the canyons you will pass through will vary throughout the day.
Third day I think it varies, but the biggest highlight of the third day (Donner Lake) should be on the right side.

In general, the easiest thing is to just be in the observation car (or dining car) during the daylight hours. That way you don't need to worry about which side of the train you are on, as you will have good visibility of both sides. Lots of times, you will have great views in both directions!
