Empire Builder Glitch

I was just on Amtrak.com playing with dates for a trip from Portland Oregon to Cincinnati. The reservations system will not let you book a connection from the Empire Builder to the Cardinal out of Portland. However, if you try to book from say Pasco, WA and all other points east to Chicago the system will allow it. If you try to book from Portland, the computer has you take the Coast Starlight to Sacramento with a connection to the California Zephyr....

actually, playing around with the dates, up until the end of november amtrak wants to route via SAC and the california zephyr to CHI. i wonder if the empire builder stub from PDX has already sold out during many of the coming days prior to thanksgiving?

some dates let me take 28 and others don't. anyone know why this would be so other than a sold-out condition?

Interesting. I was using dates towards the end of June 2007. I kept getting routed via the Zephyr so I tried some dates in Nov and go the same thing.
