Local News stations are reporting that all Amtrak Empire Corridor Service has been knocked out. This is due to a contractor working in the area hitting and breaking a high-pressure gas main located near the tracks and the West Side Highway around 135th Street.
In addition to Amtrak delays, this has also forced the closure of the West Side Highway and several local streets in the area. Several buses are also being detoured around the area.
All this during the height of rush hour here in NYC. I'd hate to see what the George Washington Bridge looks like, since it has direct access to the closed highway.
