From WCBS-880 news radio in New York City, NY, 12/17/04:

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) An Amtrak train struck a pickup truck sitting on the tracks in Poughkeepsie, killing one person, police said.
The accident happened at 4:41 p.m. and service beyond New Hamburg was suspended, Metro-North spokesman Dan Brucker said. Officials were trying to set up a shuttle bus linking the Poughkeepsie, New Hamburg and Beacon stations.

Slightly updated story from the website of the Poughkeepsie, NY Journal, 12/17/04:

As of 7 p.m., the Amtrak passengers were still aboard the train, Metro-North spokesman Dan Brucker said.
There were conflicting reports of whether there were other injuries at the scene. Police did not identify who was killed, but an eyewitness said the driver of the truck was injured.
