After numerous hours of thinking things through, I have decided to undertake the following journey...

Tuesday, 1/25/05

1) Fly from New Orleans to Baltimore/Washington via Atlanta on Delta Airlines (Depart MSY 5:00am, arrive BWI at 9:52am)

2) Take an Amtrak regional train departing BWI at 12:32pm, arriiving Philadelphia at 1:53pm

3) Depart Philadelphia on the "Three Rivers" at 3:00pm bound for Chicago

Wednesday, 1/26/05

1) Arrive Chicago at 7:45am (maybe later than that, who knows)

2) Spend the day touring Chicago

3) Depart Chicago on the "City of New Orleans" at 8:00pm

Thursday, 1/27/05

1) Arrive New Orleans at approx. 3:30pm

I decided to take the 3R's because well, it won't be around for much longer! I was leaning towards taking the LSL out of Penn Station, but I decided against it. I figure I can take that one at some other point, but I won't get the chance to take the 3R's again, and I feel that such a storied route deserves at least one ride on my part. I went ahead and purchased a "Business Class" seat on the 3R's to Chicago. Is this a little better than the regular reserved coach service?

Anyway, it should be a heck of a trip. I'll be sure to write a detailed report on it en-route.
