- Eurostar was hit by new problems Thursday as a high-speed train traveling from Brussels to London became stuck in the Channel Tunnel for about two hours because of a technical problem.

The train was towed to a station in Britain, where passengers were transferred to another train and arrived about three hours late to London's St. Pancras station, a company spokesman said.

Eurostar said it was investigating the cause of the problem.

The breakdown caused delays Thursday's across Eurostar's network, the only rail link between Britain and the European continent through the 32-mile (50-kilometer) long Chunnel Tunnel. Passengers whose travel was not essential were offered refunds or the opportunity to rebook on a different train.

Late last month, Eurostar rail link came to a standstill for days because of train breakdowns that left thousands of passengers stranded for many hours in the tunnel beneath the English Channel. The breakdowns affected holiday travel plans for up to 40,000 passengers.

The company identified the problem as unusually dry, powdery snow that got into the trains' engines.

Britain and northern Europe this week have been experiencing a cold snap that has brought heavy snow to many areas.

I'm sure Neil or another of our British cousins will have more info. Some of the news videos are showing England and Euorpe looking like our Upper Mid-West with driving snow, record temps and stranded traffic, airports closed and trains sitting due to snow and ice on the tracks! I'm sure were going to have the same with this really bad storm spreading clear down to Southern Florida, only SoCAl is warm where the Mighty Longhorns are getting hyped up to roll the Red Tide!(Who names their team after a fish killing tide?) ;)

Amazing, isn't it? One train is about 3 hours late and the press descend like a pack of Wolves, moaning that the railway can not cope with a bit of snow.

Meanwhile Gatwick Airport is closed for 20 hours, and planes arriving have to sit for up to 5 hours due to not enough stands being cleared of snow.
