RAIL FARES ON MOST LONG-DISTANCE ROUTES WILL INCREASE BY
APPROXIMATELY THREE PERCENT. THE SIGNIFICANT EXCEPTION WILL
BE THAT NO INCREASE WILL OCCUR ON THOSE PORTIONS OF /LONG-
DISTANCE ROUTES THAT OVERLAP STATE-SUPPORTED SERVICES (E.G.

WERE PREVIOUSLY SET AT $99/$92/$85 RESPECTIVELY WILL BECOME

TWO NEW MULTI-RIDE FARE PLANS WILL BE OFFERED FOR TRAVEL
WITHIN NORTH CAROLINA (BETWEEN ROCKY MOUNT AND CHARLOTTE
AND INTERMEDIATE POINTS). ONE, THE 'UMNC', WILL BE VALID
FOR TEN RIDES WITHIN 180 DAYS, AND THE OTHER, 'UMN6', WILL
BE VALID FOR SIX RIDES WITHIN 180 DAYS. BOTH FARES WILL BE
VALID ON THE CAROLINIAN AND ON THE PIEDMONT; THEY WILL NOT
BE VALID ON THE SILVER METEOR/STAR, PALMETTO OR CRESCENT.
BOTH FARES WILL ALLOW UPGRADES TO BUSINESS CLASS UPON
'FM' IN PRICING). THEY WILL BE VALID ONLY FOR THE PERSON

THERE WILL BE A FEW EXCEPTIONS WHERE THE ACCOMMODATION
CHARGE WILL BE SLIGHTLY LOWER THAN 50 PERCENT OF THE PEAK
ACELA EXPRESS RAIL FARE.

SLEEPING CAR ACCOMMODATION CHARGES:
MOST SLEEPING CAR ACCOMMODATION CHARGES ACROSS THE AMTRAK
SYSTEM WILL CHANGE. EACH SLEEPING CAR ROUTE WAS REVIEWED
INDIVIDUALLY AND SLEEPER TRAVEL PATTERNS ON EACH SERVICE
EVALUATED. AS A RESULT OF THIS REVIEW THERE WILL BE
ACCOMMODATION CHARGES THAT INCREASE, SOME THAT DECREASE,
AND SOME THAT REMAIN THE SAME. MOST ACCOMMODATION CHARGES
WILL SEE MODERATE INCREASES IN THE 3 TO 15 PERCENT RANGE;
A FEW WILL SEE INCREASES OF AS MUCH AS 35 PERCENT, WHILE A
FEW OTHERS WILL SEE DECREASES OF AS MUCH AS 24 PERCENT.
