I went to UB in the 1970s and I knew the best of Pizza, wings - and Beef on Kimmelweck (Weck) with gravy.

There might be other sources of beef on Weck but I know Wegman’s has it and has hours conductive (6AM to Midnight) for the eastbound LSL. Apparently they deliver too.

Wegman’s are really an enormous super market. The Weck I got at the Boston Wegman’s WAS A DISAPPOINTMENT- wasn’t even close. Who knows Wegmans in Depew might have good beef on Weck.

Wegman’s (716) 685-8100 is very near the Buffalo Depew Amtrak station. I’d get reviews first then call to see if they delivery and minimum $. Then on delivery day, maybe an hour from Buffalo check status on “ratrail.com” THEN go for it.

If their beef on Weck doesn’t hold up maybe instead order a highly rated lamb vindaloo and rice! An interesting breakfast.

I still fondly remember my times in Buffalo during layovers waiting for the Maple Leaf and Lake Shore, and really grew to like the Weck Sandwiches!( not so much the Pizza and Wings🤣)

I sometimes get a beef on weck at the Wegman's in Baltimore. It's OK. the they use tiger sauce (mayo and horseradish, and not much horseradish, at that) instead of the straight up prepared horseradish used in the traditional version.

I’m surprised people choose spicy meals while traveling. I like spicy meals as much as the next guy but you won’t see me risking an upset stomach en route. Most of the time everything will be fine, but the one time it’s not…yikes!
If the restaurant is good it's worth a sacrifice. 😅 Especially when it's en route because those are hard to justify actually stopping at.
