Just curious about the courtesy or courtesies extended to the freight carriers when traveling Amtrak's NEC. I am assuming that some is by contract. I am thinking that some of the freight carriers are penalized for poor OTP perfomrance. Also, is there one major rail freight carrier that works closely with Amtrak and perhaps extends Amtrak some reciprocal considerations?

HA! Freight OTP on the NEC?? Each time I've had to go on the NEC with a train either to Stoney Creek or Edgemoore, We sit at Phil for a while.

Whether a freight is OT or not would depend on whether the freights actually have a timetable to compare their time performance with. Without a timetable OTP is somewhat undefined.
Well I don't know about the NEC, but here in California UP country, the freights have schedules. Makes sense, actually, easier to tell your customer when a particular car should be ready to be picked up and when it will be delivered. They talk about good (or more often, lousy) customer service the same way we talk about Amtrak customer service, with the same issues, on-time and communication. At least loads of lumber, coal, and crude, etc. don't need food.

Freight trains will depart the Origin Terminal on a schedule but it doesn't last long at all..
