I just made reservations for my wife and me to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary with a trip from Seattle to LA on the Coast Starlight this June. This will be the first time we've taken a train trip without the kids. One question: does anyone know where the list is that tells which train gets which menus? I tried a search and couldn't come up with it.

Menu#1 - 3, 5, 8, 14, 21, 28, 421

Menu#2 - 1, 4, 19, 22, 48, 50, 91, 98, 421, 448

Menu#3 - 2, 6, 7, 11, 20, 27, 30, 49, 51, 59, 92, 97, 422, 449

These were the selections in December. Not too sure if it's still in effect.

I think Amtrak's thrown in a 4th menu into the rotation as well. I also believe that there scrambling the rotation every timetable change.

I guess the real answer is, I'll be surprised. But the food doesn't matter that much. In my limited experience, I have yet to have a really bad dining car meal and have had several very nice ones. As long as they don't bad order the parlour car on our trip, I'll be a very happy train rider!
