If I were traveling Eastbound on the Three Rivers going through the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pa. which side of the train is best for viewing this? Should I sit on the left or on the right. Traveling East.

Definitely on the right.

To me, even more scenic than Horseshoe Curve is the area just before you get to the curve after you go through the Gallitzin Tunnel. You are on the top of a ridge with a spectacular view of the valley to the right and superhighway US 22 on the opposite side. A great, nearly breathtaking scene.

The curve itself, to me anyway, is underwhelming. Nice, but not an “oh wow”.

You'll find that going Eastbound the right side is the most scenic.

On the return trip (Westbound) , it will be your left side.

I've taken this train a few times and have had sleeping compartments on both sides of the train. The south side has much more interesting scenery.
