Hi. I managed to talk my wife into taking a LSL sleeper from CHI-BOS this year for our thanksgiving trip. I found this and other sites while doing the homework. And now, armed with what to expect, good and bad, I cannot get the trip out of my head. I'm very lucky in the inlaw department, but I haven't been this eager for a visit with them since...well, since that cute girl who liked me lived with them.
I made the same run solo in coach about 10 years ago and while it wasn't the worst thing, it was an endurance test I wouldn't want to compound with holiday stress.
I don't think I have a mechanical railfan POV, and I don't see me developing one. What I do love, though, is the train-game subgenre of boardgames: 18xx stock manipulation, Empire Builder-system crayon games, etc. Wonderful stuff.
