The Incremental Train Control System (ITCS) has been out of service on Amtrak's Kalamazoo-Porter Michigan Line since July 24, reducing speed of trains from 110 to 79 MPH and adding about 10-15 min to running times. Does anyone know why the ITCS is out and what is being done to get it back?

I have no inside information. My hope would be they are cutting in the rest of the line to Dearborn for ITCS and when it comes back they will raise the speed everywhere and the new chargers will be so equiped. But lack of info from or any time frame is a concern. Maybe they don't want to get everybodies hopes up if it doesn't work. Another complete guess would be maybe the system gave a false signal indication or some other error and they were forced to suspend it until it is investigated and fixed. It is too bad Amtrak just won't release the actual info so we wouldn't have to speculate
