been a long time since I was in LA union station and things have probably changed, am coming in on the SWC and want to take a few hours break before jumping on a surfliner, so the question is there a place to leave my carry on bag between trains, lockers? lounge?? baggage room???

No lockers or lounge with baggage facility, but there is a baggage check available in the baggage claim room (located behind the car rental desks). In Feb when I was there it was either $4 or $5 a bag. Are you going to a Surfliner stop that has checked baggage? Maybe you could just check them and pick them up when you arrive.
