The double-deckers also have much less space for luggage with just basically a walk in closet in the back of the first level. MegaBus allows only one bag and doesn't do any package express buissiness like Greyhound.

Amtrak California probably couldn't fit (and there wouldn't be enough luggage bays either) all the luggage for passengers on routes like BFD to LAX.
Exactly. They would have to pull a baggage trailer to accommodate the baggage that the single level coaches can carry....especially say, a Prevost H3-45 or a MCI J4500....

A 'DL3 is a fast bus but it's slow with a trailer, imagine a lumburing Van Hool TD925 with trailer!

Now threadjacking has gone sky-high.....But it is a "Bus" thread.

Wow, Greyhound must do a lot of small package business in Canada. Regarding room, Prevost in their marketing materials state their bus height are lower than the competition (MCI), thus their buses get better mpgs..........again per their marketing materials. And they state they have a higher floor for more luggage and freight (probably the main reason Greyhound is making therm the mainstay of their fleet).

Have ridden on many J4500 (who hasn't, they are everywhere), but not on Prevost X3 45 or Van Hools double deckers.

Thanks for answering my questions, and considering how many terminals Amtrak and Bus companies share and interconnect, I think this topic is relevant.

And to bring back to this thread, if you are connecting in SAT to Laredo or beyond from the Sunset or Eagle, most likely you will be one of Greyhound's Mexico bus companies, and they are now being fleeted with Prevost X 45. If you take the thruway Amtrak shuttle from Killeen/Ft. Hood to Temple to meet the Eagle, it will be a van.
