Jim Hudson reporting for duty:
Everything is pretty much closed on Sundays in Taylor downtown, so if you can't go during the week, go on Saturday!
Taylor has two major Bar-B- Q joints, Taylor Cafe beside the Amtrak Station and Loyie Muellers on Old Hiway 79. Louie Muellar is by far the best! The Line starts 1030/opens @_11pm. Everything is good but the Brisket is the Best in Texas. ( including Franklins in Austin!!)
Next door is a bright Green Joint, used to be Mikeskas Bar- B- Q, now a good Tex-Mex place! Also there are several mom and,Pop type places to eat, all the fast food etc is on the bi-pass out side of town!
Taylor has an outstanding Public Library ( on 8th Street)about 8 blocks from Louie Mueller's / that's where I hang till its time to catch the #21 back to Austin which is usually Late)!) A few blocks farther North is a very nice City Park built along a Creek with Swimming Pool, Picnic tables, and an Island with lots of Birds and a Pond with lots of Ducks, Geese, turtles etc.
Taylor is an old Railroad and Farming Town with lots of interesting buildings, its under going a comeback with businesses moving in,artists studios, lofts being built etc.
Most of the stores and commerce is on the Hiway Bi- Pass outside town, but plenty to see and do downtown.
The old Mopac Station is now the UP District Headquarters( large Freightvyards) with the Amtrak Station being a shed with two Picnic tables beside it, but the railroaders are cool with using the old Station, which has restrooms, ac,vending machines etc. inside, while you wait for the train.
There are usually sine people catching the Train here and also some getting off,its sort of a Northern Austin Area Suburban Station.
Send me a PM if you'd like, be glad to discuss this with you! Also you can Google up the info I gave you here! Jim
