I know that the LSL had a disruptive passenger on that was escorted off by police at Elyria. However, what in the world took it over 7 hours to go from leaving Chicago only 28 minutes late and arriving at its first stop in South Bend over 7 hours late? IIRC the distance is only about 75 miles.

Actually, this one was a combination of Amtrak and NS (the LSL uses NS on the western portion of its route).

Train 48(18) was delayed 28 minutes for several reasons, including late release of engines and equipment (the inbound Lake Shore had arrived 5:27 late for...whatever reason). Then the train made it all the way to Hammond-Whiting, IN, where it stopped for a recrew. This amounted to about two hours of delay.

The train was then delayed for 4.5 more hours following an NS freight train that set off a detector.
