We arrive on the SW Chief at 8:15 am and are not scheduled to leave (on a thru bus) until 2:50 pm. Is there a place to store our luggage so we can wander around this beautiful station? ~Andy

If you are in a Sleeper you can store it and enjoy the great New Metro Lounge located in Union Station! Highly recommended! You may want to have a Redcap take you from the Train to the Lounge, its sort if hidden upstairs over the Amtrak Ticket counters!

If you're in Coach the Baggage Check/ Claim room in the Main Hall (by the Starbucks) will day check it for you @ the standard $4 per bag rate!

Don't know about storing the bags, but be sure and take the see-thru walkway that goes over the street in to the Crown Center area. Lots of shops and restaurants over there (even a movie theater). Also, if you walk out the front doors at Union Station and can trek up the hill, there is a War Museum that you can see from the front door of Union Station.

The OP was asking about Union Station in LA, not Kansas City!

Thinking the previous posters nailed it -- several options, depending.

No doubt LAUS is a beautiful station. I could sit in the courtyard and read a book any day.

Or wander to Chinatown or Little Tokyo.

Or even Olvera Street.

Also, there is an Express Bus(Santa Monica city bus) from Union Station through Downtown Los Angeles and I-10 to Santa Monica. Trip is about an hour and I did it in July and enjoyed walking to and around Santa Monica Pier. There is also very nice shopping and several restaurants in the area around the bus stop in Santa Monica.
