Here is a story about a Amtrak train hitting a car and killing the driver.

Sadly these things happen all too often. According to a friend of mine, two boys played chicken with an Amtrak train and lost on Tuesday night (Silver Meteor). There have been three deaths in the Pompano area within the past week (two by Tri-Rail, one by Amtrak and a near miss by CSX). Some people sadly never learn until its too late.

The gate crossing on the tracks near my home were down and flashing last week (during the day on Monday) for almost 5 solid hours before someone (a UP guy in a white truck) came out to fix them. Until then, people were driving around the gates and exposing themselves to great danger. What factor do gates stuck in the down position contribute to these accidents?
