According to the April 28, 1985 timetable, the Mule had the following services:
∆ The Kansas City Mule
∆ The St. Louis Mule
St. Louis-Kansas City
Sleeping Car Service—Roomettes and bedrooms available through June 16 (consult Amtrak or your local travel agency for possible service after June 16). Complimentary coffee, tea, milk and orange juice served 6:30-9:30 AM.
Unreserved Coach Service
Food Service—Tray meals, sandwiches, snacks and beverages.
No Checked Baggage—Passengers may carry hand baggage on board.
Was the sleeper on the Mule also that of the River Cities? (I assume so, given that both were eliminated on the same date.) If so, why is the dome coach that ran KCY-NOL not mentioned? Was the sleeper open to local passengers, whereas the dome was only for those headed past St. Louis?
