Hi,
I travelled on train 67 from Boston to Baltimore Penn recently, the 21:30 departure from Boston on 9/11. When the train arrived at New Haven Union, P42DC #105 was added to the front of AEM-7 #924. It was still on this train on arrival into Baltimore, and after having spoken to the engineer who got off at Baltimore he stated it had worked throughout from New York Penn acting, in effect, as a cab car for #924 in electric mode. I assume they had a reason for adding it to the train at New Haven as it also went back north on train 66 from Washington the same day it arrived (9/12). Can anyone who works on the NEC for Amtrak or Metro-North advise if they were working on the catenary that night, and if so, between which points? I remeber hearing the HEP cut out on the approach to Manhattan, would this suggest the engineer had switched over from running under diesel power and switch to electric?
Thanks...
