Do you think any of the new Acelas will be in service by July?
Before July 2022, quite likely. Before July 2021, unlikely.

I believe that the current expected in service date for the first set is early 2022, with all sets expected to be in service by the end of 2022/early 2023.

seems likely. Amtrak site claims Q4 2021, but I doubt that’s going to happen.

Darn, I might have a chance to hop on the Acela or Regional in July.

take it as an opportunity to bid farewell to the old Acela, which for 20 years was a exciting and useful service.

Is the non-toilet side seat on the Viewliner 1 wider than the comparable seat on the Viewliner 2? It was hard for me to tell, but for some reason it looked like the new seat is narrower, perhaps to make room for the larger garbage bin.

Nope - the VLI & VLII seat cushion opposite the sink side are both right about 28” wide. I’m on the northbound Meteor now.
