I've been away from this forum for awhile. (I get enough politics on TV)

My normal vacation time is late winter - early spring. This year I had planned to do a Canadian round trip from Vancouver to Toronto, catch opening day for the Blue Jays then return for opening day for the Mariners in Seattle. Long story short, the new VIA express deals prices made me re-think this trip.

Now I am taking a Transatlantic cruise from New Orleans to Barcalona and spend some time knocking around the Med.

I want to burn some of my AGR points so I'm going to book a DEN - NOL roomette to get to the port.

My questions: (Never been to NOLA)(This is in the Mid April timeframe)

How difficult is it to get to the cruise port from NOL station?

Easiest mode of transport within NOLA, station to hotels, around town, etc.

Recommended Hotels?

Has anyone else done this? Any suggestions?

By the way this cruise ended up being considerably cheaper than the new VIA express deal price.

Thanks

The cruise port is right near the French Quarter. and about a mile or so from the station. If you are staying in or near the French Quarter, you will be near everything. We stayed at the (very nice) Hampton Inn by the Convention Center. TripAdvisor speaks highly of the Quality Inn. DealNews.com listed some deals in NO French Quarter recently.

We took a taxi from the station to the Hampton Inn because the Crescent arrives at about 7:30PM and we had 5 adults and our infant grandson. But it is not a bad walk to the hotel. Everything is close in NO including the WWII Museum, Canal St, the Casino and the FQ.

We took Crescent to/from cruise and stayed at Hilton - using taxi from train station but walked to port.
