ATLANTA - Norfolk Southern told state transportation officials Tuesday that it wants to be considered to run the state's planned commuter-rail line between Macon and Atlanta.
Norfolk Southern currently is in talks with the state of North Carolina about taking over the operations of its commuter-rail service between Charlotte and Raleigh, Harrell said. That service is contracted to Amtrak, but the state is looking at other options.

Thats good news for us! Ive always thought it would be beneficial of Georgia to put a system in place. Once again, things will probably come down to money.
 
Norfolk Southern passenger service, well that certainly would be intresting.
 
At this point I expect that the proposed Atlanta-Macon line will go the way of Florida's high speed rail, i.e., nowhere. There is strong opposition to the rail line, especially from Governor Perdue's office; I do not expect we will see it for years to come, if ever. :(
