Paying for the Trip

As a rule I pay the whole bill since it's not very big. The one time I paid half was for my trip to and from Tacoma. Please refresh my memory as I am working on getting tickets for a group my friends from Barstow to LAUS. It seems to me that I had one week to pay half the total fare, then two weeks more to pay the balance.

And no, I don't think we'll have 20 or more.

I have searched a great deal of Amtrak the best I can. I suppose paying half now and paying half later is an option only a travel agent can offer?
