VIPs on board the CZ this week won’t help with on time performance.
Freight derailment at Elko. And coming winter storm in the Sierras causing westbound trains to terminate at SLC and eastbound trains to originate at SLC

I noticed in the pictures that most or all the seats in the American View face backwards. Is this why the Amtrak execs aren't stressed about ceasing to flip the seats on the NERs and other regional trains?

They face backwards so they can visually inspect the rails. It’s a viewing car with theater seats.

Graham Claytor would travel in the regular sleepers, show up with little warning, and would blow up at an SCA who gave him preferential treatment in any way over other passengers.
While they didn’t sleep in revenue cars, they slept in regular roomettes in an extra transition sleeper (one probably in the one accessible bedroom downstairs). American View does not have sleeping quarters and they didn’t have the beech grove or any of the other cars with special executive rooms. Way too many of them on board to put them in revenue rooms - adding the extra car less disruptive.
