I am planning a trip with my wife and 11 month old son on this overnight route from Philly to South Carolina next week. I am hoping that I will be able to purchase an upgrade to a sleeper while on the train, or at least have a little room in coach to let the baby sleep.

Does anyone have any experience with this route? Is it busy? Will I be able to get a sleeper on the train?

Sleepers are tough to come by at any time of year. You are more likely at this time of year to be able to upgrade. But if you see your Conductor and he's not busy (station stops are not a good time B) ) Let him/her know you'd like to upgrade if and when possible.

Once the trains start running again, they look to be fairly full.
