Schedule changes for 4/28 continued...

Regional

As mentioned earlier, weekday Train 142 was eliminated. However, its slot from Washington to New Haven is preserved by a new Train 176, which will operate via the Shore Line to Boston via Providence.

The old 176, which is a Friday-only Washington-Boston late night train, will be redesignated as 138. It continues to cover the schedule of Train 196, a Monday-Thursday Washington-New York train.

Train 82, currently a Saturday-only Richmond-New York train, will be extended to Boston. The balance to this will be Train 135, which currently runs Boston-Washington on Sundays only. It will now run on Saturdays as well.

Train 191, currently a Saturday-only Boston-Washington train, will become 195, and be extended to Richmond. This matches what now takes place on Sundays. Related to this change is Train 87, which currently runs New York-Richmond on Saturdays and Sundays. 87 will continue on Sundays only, and be replaced on Saturdays by a New York-Washington train, 199. In essence, the Saturday trip now on 87 will instead be running on 195.

Related to the new schedule for the train that will be called the FEDERAL, current Train 198, which departs Washington at 10:30 PM, will be moved up to leave Washington at 9:00 PM. In effect it swaps slots with 66.

There is another package of changes related to the revised operations of Trains 55, 57, and 147 mentioned previously. On weekends, Train 57, the southbound VERMONTER, will take 147's old slot departing New York at 8:50 PM. 147, in turn, moves much earlier to a 5:05 PM departure, bumping off Train 159. And 159 then gets 57's old slot at 6:55 PM. Train 135 (whose new Saturday service replaces Train 197) will now depart New York 6:55 PM. On weekdays, the southbound VERMONTER 55 will take the 8:35 PM New York departure now held by Train 187. 187 will depart New York earlier at 7:18 PM, but it will not replace anything. It will, however, be operating pretty close to the schedule of 175, which leaves New York 7:35 PM. Nothing is replacing 55's old New York departure of 4:35 PM, so it is assumed that the capacity is needed more at 7:18 PM than it is at 4:35 PM.

Acela Express & Metroliner

There will be fewer Acela Express trains in operation on the next schedule, particularly on weekends. Weekend Acela Express 2252 is cancelled. It will be replaced by a Washington-New York 2204 on Saturdays, and a Metroliner 210 on Sundays. The extended Regional Train 82 to Boston may fill the void north of New York.

Weekend Acela Express 2255 is cancelled on Saturdays only, but will be retained on Sundays. The new Regional 135 on Saturdays may again fill the void. South of New York, a Saturday-only Acela Express 2211 will operate instead of 2255.

Weekend Acela Express 2256 is cancelled on Saturdays only, but will be retained on Sundays. A Washington-New York Acela Express 2206 will run in its place, but there is no substitute service in that timeslot north of New York.

Sunday-only Acela Express 2258 is gone too. It will be replaced by 2208, currently a Saturday-only train that will run on Sundays too Washington-New York City.

Sunday-only Acela Express train 2257 has also been eliminated. Only current Regional trains out of Boston will be available. This was the 7 PM New York departure. Metroliners 225 (6 PM departure) and 229 (9 PM departure) are being added.

The Sunday-only Boston-New York Acela Express, 2295 is also being eliminated.

Southbound Acela Express 2251, which currently runs Saturdays and Sundays, will only run on Saturday. A new 2209 will run in its slot on Sundays.

The Acela Express runs that depart at 8 AM (2201) and 10 AM (2205) will continue on Saturday mornings. On Sundays they will be consolidated to a 9 AM departure, 2203.

Weekday-only Acela Express 2118, that late-night departure that is still being offered at $59 from Washington to New York, will be moved up 1/2 hour from 8:30 PM to an 8:00 PM departure. With the earlier schedule the discounted fare is being eliminated.
