I think the RIP for commuter travel as a result of the pandemic is a bit premature. My train to Washington lefy at about 0850, which meant I had to drive in the height of the rush hour. A year or two ago, there was no rush hour. Today, it took me a half hour for a drive that usually takes 15 minutes. The congestion wasn't just on the expressway, it was also on an arterial where I've never encountered stop and go traffic before.

I don't think that today was a one-off, either. Last week, I drove my daughter to work because her car broke down. This involved driving downtown on the expressway and then across Baltimore City. She goes in early enough that the expressway wasn't too bad, but when I drove home after dropping her off, the drive back into the city was very heavy, and so was the expressway heading downtown. Fortunately, I was going the other way.
