My 11 year old son is starting his Summer Vacation in a few days and I'm giving his a summer project. He's a huge railfan, like his Dad and Grandpa. His project is to design his own Amtrak system, using existing lines, exceptions being he can build small connections from one line to another, but he can't just say reinstate the old Milwaukee Road trackage in the PNW, the tracks have to be either listed in the Steam Power Rail map books or on a CD Rom USA Rail maps program that we have as not abandonned. Money is no object (he's a rising 7th grader, he's not going to understand the ins & outs of HUGE budgets just yet) Equipment obstacles aren't in the equation either.. All he has to do is the routes and if he breezes through that, then timetables.
Anyway.. feel free to suggest routes or other ideas that might give him some guidance.
