Well, I've always liked to write poems, so I thought it'd be appropriate to write one on the Sunset. I hope you all enjoy, I am considering whether or not to send it to Amtrak...after sprucing it up of course.
Let me know what you think!
Sunset limited
Ridin the rails for over 100 years.
What a feat, some will say.
A 2500 mile journey.
I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Seeing the true America,
One that’s both grand and not.
One could call it a service.
But the people seem to have forgot.
Oh I’ve been through it all.
Robberies, wrecks, and vandals on my tracks.
But I’ve always survived.
Always finding a way.
Always finding a way to ride another day.
Down to three days a week now.
Work is not as frequent as it used to be.
But now I see Florida,
Which is just fine by me.
The gulf coast.
Bayou country.
The magnificent Southwest.
Think a plane can show you this much?
Ha, put that to the test!
They call me a sunbelt superliner.
Comfort and service are what I do best.
You buy the ticket and have a seat.
Let me do all the rest.
But even though I still ply the routes
Like my ancestors of yore,
I may have to experience something
I’ve never experienced before.
This old man may be put out to pasture.
And no one seems to care.
And for all this time I truly thought
I would never go anywhere.
People hate me because I’m often late.
It was never my intention to make them so irate.
I do my best to get them there on time.
But to some people lateness might as well be a crime.
Oh I would miss the California sun…
And the Louisiana rain…
I would miss the bridge they call Huey P…
Don’t let it go down the drain!
So let me serve you while I can.
I still have life in me yet!
Experience this country the way I do.
Ride the train called Sunset!
Let me know what you think!
