Ok, I've been wavering on this for the past few days. I'm feeling like I need to get away for awhile and I came up with this idea thanks to the rail sale of course.
I would leave Sunday on the Zephyr from Emeryville and take that to Chicago. Switch to the Lake Shore Limited to NYP, then LIRR to the Island. Coming back a week later on the LSL from NYP to Chicago then the Zephyr back to Emeryville.
Due to budgetary limitations I would have to do the ride in coach [unless I can get a great price for an onboard upgrade, and then only on the Zephyr.] I also will not be taking too much stuff with me, backpack and laptop (or small standard size rolling bag).
Am I being realistic with this plan or is it a pipe dream?
