You should read Thunder Below. It was written by Eugene Fluckey and details his time as the Barb’s CO, including the train mission.
Fun Fact #1. When Barb’s landing party went ashore they were the only American force to conduct land operations on the Japanese home islands during the entire war.
Fun Fact #2. Every American submariner reads an excerpt from Thunder Below right after they get their fish (Submarine Warfare Insignia) pinned on their chest.
