Service Notice: Mehserle Trial Verdict
Dear Rider:

Many of you may be concerned about Capitol Corridor’s service plans in the event there are public demonstrations in the S.F. Bay Area as a result of the jury’s verdict in the Mehserle trial.

Your safety is our top priority. We are advising you that in the event that there is civil unrest in Oakland after the verdict is revealed, the Union Pacific Rail Road (UPRR)—the entity that owns the railroad tracks—is likely to cease all train operations in the vicinity of Oakland. If circumstances warrant it, we will provide pertinent, timely service advisory information as often as necessary and as expeditiously as possible.

Depending on the extent of any demonstrations, we may need to temporarily close some stations or make other adjustments to service on short notice. Amtrak Police and Operations staff are closely working with other local law enforcement agencies to coordinate plans. In addition, we are looking into developing contingency plans should UPRR stop rail travel through Oakland.
The verdict is supposed to be read here shortly. I'm afraid that regardless of what it is there will be trouble in Oakland. :(

They just found the Bart Officer guilty of involuntary manslaughter, which was the lesser of all charges, for the shooting of a young black man on a BART subway station. The officer claimed that he mistakenly drew his gun instead of the tazer that he meant to use.

And if anyone has seen both pieces of equipment they have to doubt that story.

Did this happen in Oakland?

CS #14 just made it to the OKJ station, so I guess everything is OK in that area. But there are problems being reported in several places in Oakland. BART is not stopping at a couple of its regular stations.
