I was riding through upstate New York, westbound not to long ago on the empire service and saw what I thought to be something like a chain of Acela Express passenger cars chained to an ordinary diesel, I'm not a rail enthusiast like you all, but I was wondering what it was, looked to be headed southbound out Albany-Renssaler.

(It was not the LSL, that much I do know, passed by that train near Amsterdam)

I can only guess that what you saw may have been a rebuilt Turboliner. Did the train look like anything in these photos.

There's always a chance that you caught a set returning from the manufacturer. To my knowledge Amtrak has been sending one set at a time back to Bombardier to have some of the problems fixed.

The Bombardier assembly plant is north of Albany, so the trains get shuttled through Albany behind a diesel.

Amfleet,

it was the turboliner like in those photos, what trains does amtrak use those for?

Turboliners are used on select Empire Service runs from NYP to Albany.
