Upcoming CZ Temp. Schedule Change (April-May 2015)

Just saw this posted on another group. Plan accordingly:

Eastbound California Zephyr Train 6: Temporary Schedule Change


Effective April 15 - 24 and April 30 - May 9, 2015
On the dates shown below, eastbound Train 6 will operate according to a later schedule at all
stations from Emeryville to Chicago, due to track work being performed by Union Pacific Railroad.
The track work will affect the schedule for Train 6 during the following periods:

April 15 - 24, 2015
This schedule change will be effective with the departure of Train 6 at Emeryville on April 15,
2015, which arrives in Chicago on April 17, 2015. This schedule change will remain in effect
through the departure of Train 6 on April 22, 2015, until its arrival in Chicago on April 24, 2015.


April 30 - May 9, 2015
This schedule change will be effective with the departure of Train 6 at Emeryville on April 30,
2015, which arrives in Chicago on May 2, 2015. This schedule change will remain in effect through
the departure of Train 6 on May 7, 2015, until its arrival in Chicago on May 9, 2015.

Its Amtrak so I guess they forgot to put the times in the notice???

they assume you will check online...

trains depart EMY at 0955 hours, arrives at CHI at 1750 hours + 2 days.

Doing a bit of checking intermediate stops indicates that an extra hour of dwell time is being added to the station stops at SLC and GJT. So I am guessing that UP is carving out a larger daytime work window for rock scaling in Byers and Fraser Canyons.

That will make for a close connection time between the arriving CZ and the departing CL.. wonder if they will still guarantee that connection on those days? :unsure:

No, there will be no connections between trains 6 & 30 in CHI while this modified schedule is in effect.
