Currently, Amtrak 66 arrives at NYP around 2 AM and then continues to Boston at 5:29 AM.

I have heard numerous reasons for the issue including construction overnight in CT on Metro-North tracks and Amtrak not wanting Moynihan open in the early morning hours because of homeless concerns. ( I believe the latter is the truth )
66 had a nickname "Hotel Amtrak' for many in New England who would enjoy a night in NYC and maybe catch a few z's for the trip home. Patronage was steady in my lifetime from Yale students going back to New Haven and Bostonians enjoying a play or sporting event in Manhattan.
I miss not having that option.
At South Station (BOS) does the baggage room even exist anymore?
