What's going on with CZ #5?

Looking at Amtrak Status Maps for the past few weeks the California Zephyr #5 has been running habitually late.

Dare I say it's striving to keep pace with the Empire Builder Blues???

Just speculation, but it could be that Amtrak is holding #5 for connections from the eastern trains. I know that in the past week the LSL and CL have been very late getting into CHI because of operational issues due to cold and snow.
